The Southwest Livingston Wildcats hosted Breckenridge on Thursday night, cruising to a pair of wins over the Bulldogs. The #2 ranked (MBCA Class 1) Lady Wildcats got a 25 point, five assist, three steal night from Kortlyn Rounkles in a 70-18 win over BHS. Kaylie Campbell added 15 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists, and four steals for Southwest, now 5-0 on the season.
The Lady Wildcats will now prepare for their toughest test of the season to date, a neutral site game with St. Joseph Lafayette on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 from Holiday Hoops at North Central Missouri College in Trenton.
The Southwest boys beat Breckenridge on Thursday night, 64-13, with Wyatt Maddux leading the Wildcats with 20 points. Sophomore center Mack Anderson had 18 points, 8 boards, and five assists. The Southwest boys will play Scotland County (Memphis, MO) in the first game of the 2017 run of Holiday Hoops at the Ketcham Center in Trenton, on Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The Wildcats are 4-1 on the season, with only a 20 point loss to #5 ranked Winston on the “defeat side” of the Southwest resume.
Elsewhere on Thursday night, North Harrison played Lamoni in a “border battle” doubleheader. The Lady Shamrocks improved to 5-1 overall with a 54-27 win over Lamoni, with the Iowa school bouncing back in the boys contest, beating North Harrison 64-45.
The North Nodaway girls, behind 15 points from Keagan O’Riley, won in Cainsville against the East Harrison Lady Bobcats, 55-47 in overtime. Lauryn Waddle had 16 points and Natayla Selby 10 in the loss for East Harrison. In the boys game, Ethan Claycomb scored 21 points, leading East Harrison to a 61-38 win. Adam Reinhart added 14 for the Bobcats.
Gilman City took a home sweep of the Stewartsville Cardinals on Thursday night. The Ladyhawks picked up a strong 21 point night from Megan Cottrell, in a 41-36 victory. The Gilman boys, behind 30 points from Cornelius Peery and 14 more from Kaleb Bjornlie, downed the Cardinals 54-33.
The Mercer girls earned their first victory of the 2017-2018 season, riding a 17 point night from Kaylee Duckworth to a 42-29 win over the Tri-County Lady Mustangs. Morgan Eastin had 11 points and Aubrey Wilson nine for the Lady Cardinals. Jaden Almond led the Jamesport girls with 17 points. The Mercer boys dominated their HDC Conference game with the Mustangs, winning 66-11. Hunter Shipley led the Cardinals with 23 points.
