The Southwest Livingston Lady Wildcats, behind a game-high 32 points from senior small forward Kortlyn Rounkles won the Class 1, District 13 championship game over CLAA rival Hardin-Central on Thursday night, 62-45 at Braymer High School.
Adding 19 points for the Lady ‘Cats (22-3) was Kaylie Campbell. For Hardin-Central, finishing the season at 17-11, Julia Finley had 16 points to go with 15 points from Carly Thacker.
The win sends Southwest to the Class 1 state playoffs, and a Tuesday night meeting with the District 14 champions at the St. Joseph Civic Arena. The District 14 tournament is being played at Albany High School this weekend, with top-seed North Harrison, #2 seed Worth County, and the defending state champions from Mercer among the contenders for that district championship.
The Winston boys picked up 26 points from Cy Uthe and 25 from Jacob Lewis in beating Southwest Livingston 60-36, sending Eric Lewis’ team back to the Class 1 state playoffs, and the Civic Arena on Tuesday night. The Redbirds are now 25-2 on the season, with the CLAA champion Wildcats sending their best season in decades with a final mark of 21-5.
