The South Harrison Lady Bulldogs rode the pitching arm of sophomore Hannah Carter to an early-game advantage at Trenton High School, with the visitors from Bethany holding on late for a 7-5 victory, moving to within one win of clinching the Grand River Conference’s Eastern Division title.
South Harrison, playing against a Trenton team playing without senior leader Chandler Lynch, out with a knee injury, slowly built a lead with single runs in the 2nd, 4th, and 5th innings, while Carter shut down the THS offense with shutout, two-hit pitching. Carter, with the bat, launched a three-run homer in the top of the 6th inning, part of a four-run outburst that gave South Harrison a 7-0 lead.
Trenton rallied with a run in the bottom of the 6th inning, as a single by Mirena King scored Teya Cooksey all the way from first base. Down 7-1 going into the bottom of the 7th, Trenton scored four runs. Morgan King scored on a single by Emma Roberts, Eliana Cowling scored on a fielding error by South Harrison, while Roberts scored on a ground ball off the bat of Madi Moore. Gracyn Rongey singled, advanced a pair of bases on wild pitches, and scored on a steal of home for the final margin.
In earning the win, Roberts struck out 11 Trenton batters. The game was broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.
South Harrison won the JV game at Trenton, 5-4. For THS, Jena Hunter, Kenzie Lynch, Morgan Foster, and Ayra Meeker all had base hits, with Hunter and Meeker adding RBI’s. Foster’s hit was an RBI triple.
