The South Harrison boys, behind 22 points from Treyton Campbell, downed the Princeton Tigers on Friday night, winning 65-62 in the back-end of a GRC East basketball broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.
Princeton led 36-29 at the half, but could not hold back the Bulldog charge in the fourth quarter, a Cody Weller had 14 points and Kinser Corbett 11 for the Bethany side. Andrew Smith led the Tigers with 24.
In the girls game, Katey Wilhelm paced South Harrison with 22 points, as the Lady Bulldogs beat Princeton 58-40. Hailey Henry added 11 in the victory. For Princeton, Jaelyn Thomas had 19 points with freshman Lindsey Batson adding 10.
Elsewhere in the GRC Eastern Division on Friday night, the Gallatin Bulldogs swept a doubleheader at Polo, winning the girls game 57-23 and the boys contest 49-35. In non-conference action, Putnam County’s Jade Varner scored a career-high 46 points, leading the Lady Midget to a 75-54 win over Green City. The Putnam County boys, behind 28 points from Calvin Heidenwith, downed Green City 85-67. Ryan Peavler had a game-high 29 point effort for the Gophers.
Milan split games in the consolation finals of the Marceline Hoops Classic, with the Wildcat boys beating Schuyler County for the second time this season, 59-36. The Lady ‘Cats, putting up a strong upset bid against host Marceline, came up one point short of victory, falling 37-36.
The Meadville Eagles fell in both third place games at Marceline, with the Lady Eagles taken down by Glasgow 47-32, while the Meadville boys were doused by South Shelby, 59-48.
The Marceline championship games are Saturday afternoon, with Schuyler County’s girls battling South Shelby at 4 o’clock, followed by the Marceline boys taking on #3 ranked (MBCA Class 1) Glasgow at 5:30.
Friday night brought a full slate of games for the Grand River Conference’s Western Division, with Braymer earning two important victories on the road at Worth County. The Lady Bobcats opened the night with a 35-32 win, followed by the #8 (Class 1 MBCA) ranked Bobcats swinging a 40-33 victory. King City won two games at Albany, taking the girls game 47-24 and the boys contest 50-22. Stanberry rolled past St. Joseph Christian in games on the Bulldogs home court, taking 67-13 (girls) and 73-51 (boys) wins. North Andrew welcomed Pattonsburg into Rosendale, and sent the Panthers home with a pair of defeats, 46-20 was the girls final and 78-23 in the boys contest.
