Trenton High School’s doubles tennis team of Astrid Soriano and Lydia Leininger have joined Chillicothe’s Rylee Washburn and Isabella Garr in advancing to the Class 1 state tournament, as both teams claimed sectional victories on Friday afternoon in Excelsior Springs.
Playing Lauren Mueller and Megan Riegel of Excelsior Springs, Soriano and Leininger rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Washburn and Garr shutout Shelby Stodden and Malaya Tedesco of Excelsior Springs, winning 6-0, 6-0.
In the Class 1 first round in Springfield on Friday, October 14th, Soriano and Leininger will play Claire Bean and Handley Grace McAtee of Kennett. Washburn and Garr play Isabella Mosley and Allison Schubert of Mount Vernon.
In Section 8 singles competition, Cameron’s Zuzanna Twarowska swept Savannah Reinke of Carrollton 6-0, 6-0. Chillicothe’s Cami Carpenter advanced to state with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Annalise Selby of Excelsior Springs.
Chillicothe advanced to sectional competition in the Class 1 team tournament, beating Kirksville 5-3 in the district final. A day earlier, Chillicothe beat Trenton 5-0 while Kirksville swept Cameron 5-0.
