Four state champions were crowned on Saturday at the Killian Sports Complex in Springfield, host of the 2019 MSHSAA girls softball state championship games. The Class 1 state championship went to the Salisbury Lady Panthers, 4-1 winners over Canton in the final. In Friday’s state semifinals, Salisbury ended Maysville’s dreams of back-to-back titles with a 9-3 triumph, while Canton defeated Stoutland 4-1. Maysville, with a 10-3 win, took third place on Friday afternoon.
The Sherwood Lady Indians won Class 2 with a 2-0 shutout of Palmyra on Saturday afternoon. In Friday’s semifinals, Sherwood shutout East Carter 5-0, while the Marceline Lady Tigers lost a 9-8 heartbreaker to Palmyra. Marceline claimed the third place hardware on Friday night with a 6-0 shutout of East Carter.
Helias Catholic took the Class 3 state title with a 3-1 triumph over Sullivan on Saturday. On Friday, Helias Catholic shutout Incarnate Word Academy 8-0 while Sullivan hammered Savannah 10-2. In the third place game on Friday night, Savannah clipped IWA 5-4, giving northern Missouri a third winner in the third-place game.
In Class 4, Blue Springs South rolled to another crown, routing Raymore-Peculiar 10-0 in six innings. The greatest challenge of the weekend for the Jaguars came Friday morning, in a 3-2 squeaker over Columbia Rock Bridge in the semifinals. Ray-Pec hammered Northwest of Cedar Hills 10-0 in the semifinal round, while Rock Bridge shutout NCH in the third place game early on Friday afternoon 7-0.
