Softball district tournaments to crank up later this week

Area high school softball teams are preparing for the start of district tournaments, with a sprinkling of games on Wednesday night, followed by a busy Thursday of action across the region. 

Starting our look at the bracket in Class 1, District 5, La Plata High School will host that tournament, with the Lady Bulldogs enjoying a #1 seed.  There will be one first-round game on Wednesday night (5 PM) from La Plata, with #8 seed Bucklin/Macon County playing #9 seed Linn County.  The winner plays La Plata in a 5 o’clock quarterfinal on Thursday.

The remaining Thursday quarterfinals will be: 

#4 Novinger vs. #5 Atlanta (6:30 PM) 

#2 Brashear vs. #7 Bevier (5:00 PM) 

#3 Schuyler County vs. #6 Green City (6:30 PM) 

The district semifinals will be Monday, October 21st, with the championship game on Wednesday, October 23rd.

In Class 1, District 6, Polo High School will host, with the GRC champion Gallatin Lady Bulldogs enjoying a #1 seed.  There will be one first-round game on Wednesday night (5:30 PM) from Polo, with #8 seed Tina-Avalon/Southwest Livingston playing #9 seed Hale/Bosworth.  The winner plays Gallatin in a 5 o’clock quarterfinal on Thursday.

The remaining Thursday quarterfinals will be: 

#4 Norborne/Hardin-Central vs. #5 Brunswick/Keytesville/Northwestern (5:00 PM) 

#2 Braymer/Breckenridge vs. #7 Meadville (7:00 PM)

#3 Polo vs. #6 Tri-County (7:00 PM)

The district semifinals will be Saturday afternoon (October 19th), with the championship game at 6 PM on Tuesday, October 22nd.

In Class 1, District 7, North Andrew will host, with Northeast Nodaway enjoying a #1 seed.  There will be one first-round game on Wednesday night (5:30 PM) from Rosendale, with #8 seed Stewartsville/Osborn playing #9 seed Bishop LeBlond.  The winner plays Northeast Nodaway in a 5 o’clock quarterfinal on Thursday.

The remaining Thursday quarterfinals will be: 

#4 North Andrew vs. #5 Platte Valley (6:30 PM) 

#2 Stanberry vs. #7 Maysville (6:30 PM) 

#3 DeKalb vs. #6 King City/Union Star (6:30 PM) 

The district semifinals will be Saturday, October 19th, with the championship game on Tuesday, October 22nd at 5:30 PM.

In Class 1, District 8, Princeton will host that tournament, with the Albany Lady Warriors enjoying a #1 seed.  There will be one first-round game on Wednesday night (5:30 PM), with #8 seed Mercer playing #9 seed Grundy/Newtown.  The winner plays Albany in a 6:45 quarterfinal on Thursday night.

The remaining Thursday quarterfinals will be: 

#4 Worth County vs. #5 Gilman City (5:00 PM) 

#2 Princeton vs. #7 North Harrison (6:45 PM) 

#3 Pattonsburg/Winston vs. #6 East Harrison (5:00 PM) 

The district semifinals will be Saturday, October 19th, with the championship game on Monday, October 21st (6:00 PM).

In Class 2, District 5, Highland High School will host with the Lady Cougars earning the top seed.  There will be three quarterfinal games on Wednesday night, with #4 seed Mark Twain playing #5 seed Clark County at 5:45, preceded at 4 o’clock by #2 seed Monroe City tangling with Scotland County.  In the 7:30 contest, #3 South Shelby plays #6 Palmyra. 

The district semifinals will be Thursday night with the title game at 1 PM on Saturday.

In Class 2, District 6, Trenton School will host with the South Harrison Lady Bulldogs earning the top seed and a bye into the semifinal round.  There will be three quarterfinal games on Wednesday night, with #4 seed Trenton hosting #5 seed Milan at 4:30 PM (coverage on KGOZ FM 101.7), with the Bulldogs and Wildcats playing at Griffin Field, while #2 seed Marceline and #7 seed Hamilton battle at the same time at adjacent Johnson Field.  In the 6:15 contest, #3 Brookfield battles #6 Putnam County. 

The district semifinals will be Thursday night (4:30 and 6:15) with the title game at 5 PM on Monday, October 21st.

In Class 2, District 7, Plattsburg High School will host with the Mid-Buchanan Lady Dragons earning the top seed.  There will be two quarterfinal games on Thursday night, with #4 seed Plattsburg playing #5 seed Lathrop at 5 o’clock, followed at 7 o’clock by #3 seed West Platte tangling with East Buchanan.  Joining Mid-Buchanan with a bye into the semifinals on Monday, October 21st are the #2 seed North Platte Lady Panthers. 

The Class 2, District 7 title game will be Tuesday, October 22nd at 6 PM. 

In Class 3, District 7, Oak Grove High School will host and have control of the top seed.  There will be four quarterfinal games on Wednesday night in the eight team tournament, with #1 seed Oak Grove playing #8 seed Richmond at 6:00 PM, with #3 Odessa and #6 St. Pius X playing at the same time.  In the 4:30 contests, #4 Summit Christian Academy plays #5 St. Michael the Archangel while #2 seed Pleasant Hill duels with Notre Dame de Sion. 

The district semifinals will be Monday, October 21st with the title game at 5 PM on Tuesday, October 22nd.

In Class 3, District 8, games will be played in St. Joseph, with the Chillicothe Lady Hornets owning the top seed.  There will be four quarterfinal games on Wednesday night in the eight team tournament, with #1 seed Chillicothe playing #8 seed Maryville at 5:00 PM, with #2 Savannah and #7 Cameron playing at the same time.  In the 6:45 contests, #4 Benton plays #5 Excelsior Springs while #3 seed Lawson duels with Lafayette. 

The district semifinals will be Thursday night with the title game on Saturday.
