Both Grundy R-V basketball teams proved their overall improvement on the floor at North Harrison High School in Eagleville on Friday night, battling the Shamrock teams in an HDC Conference doubleheader.
Unfortunately for the Grundy side, the Panthers were given a pair of close defeats, leading to a long and disappointing bus trip back to Galt.
The girls game saw Payton Craig score 27 points for the Lady Shamrocks, in a heart-pounding 60-59 victory over the Lady Panthers. Brandy Rivet had 17 points for North Harrison in the win, while Jandie Peterson had 20 points, Morgan Axtell 17, and Aubrey Gann 11 for Grundy R-5. The loss is the first of the season for the Lady Panthers, now 2-1 on the campaign.
The boys contest went overtime, as the Shamrocks tipped the Panthers 76-71. For Grundy R-5, Bryson Gann had 22 points, Caden Gann 12, and Tanner Williams 11.
Grundy R-5 will next be in action on Thursday, December 7th, traveling to Green City to tangle with the Gophers.
The Putnam County Midgets played a doubleheader against the Clark County Indians on Friday night. The Clark County ladies won the opener 81-27, with the Indians winning the boys contest, 68-61.
