The North Harrison Lady Shamrocks won three more games on Saturday, by a combined score of 40-1. However, Mercer challenged the hosts from Eagleville in the championship game, with North Harrison emerging with a 5-1 win, improving the Lady ‘Rocks to 18-3 on the 2020 season.
North Harrison opened play on late Saturday morning, handling their business against #7 seed Grundy R-V in a 15-0 shutout. The semifinal that followed against #4 seed Tri-County was even more lopsided, with the Shamrocks routing the Mustangs 20-0.
In taking second place, Mercer had a strong day, winning a pair of pool play games, one in decisive fashion against East Harrison with a final score of 11-1. The second, which turned out to be a “semifinal”, saw the Lady Cardinals grind out a 3-1 triumph over Winston.
Winston ended up taking third place with an 8-5 win over Tri-County, as the Lady Redbirds finished a 2-1 day that included a 12-1 morning win over East Harrison.
Gilman City salvaged the consolation championship from the HDC annual event, beat East Harrison in the fifth place game 5-4. Gilman City rebounded from a 2-0 quarterfinal loss to archrival Tri-County to win back-to-back games, including a hard-fought 6-4 victory over Grundy R-V in the consolation semifinal round.
