The Schuyler County School District (Queen City, MO) has officially appointed Jana Calhoun as the new head coach for the Lady Rams’ girls’ basketball team. Calhoun, who currently coaches the junior high basketball program at Schuyler County, will also continue in her role as the head coach for the varsity softball team. In the previous fall season, Calhoun guided the Lady Rams to a 9-15 record in softball and a commendable runner-up position in the district tournament.
Assuming the role previously held by Thomas Kirkland, who recently resigned after a tenure of 14 years, Calhoun now takes charge of a girls’ basketball program that had a highly successful season. The Lady Rams achieved a remarkable 23-6 record and clinched their first district title since 1999 in the most recent season. Among the Lady Rams postseason victories was a Class 2, District 6 semifinal triumph over the Princeton Lady Tigers 81-42 on February 23rd. The Lady Rams beat Canton 47-42 two days later to take the district crown on their home floor.
In the first round of the Class 2 state playoffs, the Lady Rams lost to the Northeast (Cairo) Bearcats 55-37 at Hannibal High School.
