Sporting Kansas City’s Johnny Russell cracked in a goal in the 79th minute to help Kansas City win at Western Conference-leading Seattle on Saturday afternoon, 2-1. Russell’s goal improved his goal scoring streak to seven in a row.
The loss for Seattle will give the overall #1 seed in the upcoming Major League Soccer playoffs to the New England Revolution, as 69 points for New England has clinched the Supporter’s Shield for the best regular season record in MLS. In the Western Conference standings, Kansas City’s win moved Sporting to 55 points, within three of Seattle’s pace-setting 58.
Sporting Kansas City opened the scoring at Lumen Field early, with Remi Walter scoring in the 4th minute, with Seattle’s only goal coming early in the second half, on a marker by Nicolas Benezet.
