The Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles completed a swap on Tuesday afternoon, with the Royals sending first baseman Ryan O’Hearn to the east coast in exchange for cash.
In his final year with the Royals in 2022, O’Hearn hit .239 with a home run and 16 RBI’s, but proved to be particularly efficient off the bench, leading MLB with 11 pinch-hits. The trade ends a five-year run in Kansas City for O’Hearn, who had been an early favorite to replace Eric Hosmer at first base after the former All-Star moved to San Diego via free agency.
To make room on the roster, the Orioles designated right-hander Chris Vallimont for assignment.
