In a game between the Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals, the Tigers emerged victorious with a 9-4 win on Wednesday. Zack Short had a strong performance, hitting a home run and driving in two runs for Detroit. Javier Báez also reached a career milestone by recording his 1,000th career hit.
Matthew Boyd started on the mound for the Tigers and pitched well, allowing two runs and six hits over six innings. He struck out seven batters without issuing a walk. On the other side, Brady Singer took the loss for the Royals, giving up five runs, seven hits, and a walk in seven innings.
The Royals initially took a 2-0 lead in the second inning with a two-run double from Freddy Fermin. However, the Tigers quickly responded, tying the game in the bottom of the inning with a two-run double from Eric Haase. Zack Short’s RBI single put the Tigers ahead 3-2 in the same inning.
In the third inning, Javier Báez drove in Kerry Carpenter with his 1,000th career hit, extending the Tigers’ lead to 4-2. Short continued his impressive performance by hitting a solo home run in the fifth inning, giving Detroit a three-run advantage.
In the eighth inning, a collision occurred between Kansas City’s second baseman Samad Taylor and right fielder Matt Beaty while going for a fly ball. Taylor remained in the game, but Beaty had to leave the field. Spencer Torkelson later scored for the Tigers, and Báez added another RBI single, contributing to a three-run eighth inning and a 9-3 lead for Detroit.
The Tigers’ afternoon game marked their 38th day game of the season, the most in the majors. They have a record of 14-24 in day games compared to 18-17 in night games.
Following the game, the Tigers will have a day off before starting a weekend home series against the Minnesota Twins. The Royals, on the other hand, will travel to Florida for a four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays, with the starting pitchers for the opener yet to be announced.
