The Kansas City Royals have announced that pitching coach Dave Eiland and bench coach Don Wakamatsu will not be retained for the 2018 Major League Baseball season.
Both Eiland and Wakamatsu were part of the staff of the 2015 World Series champion Royals. With key free agents in Eric Hosmer, Lorenzo Cain, Mike Moustakas, Alcides Escobar, and Jason Vargas ready to test the open market, it could be an off-season of significant change for the Royals on the field.
In addition to the departure of Eiland and Wakmatsu, the Kansas City Star is reporting that bullpen coach Doug Henry twill not return, and assistant hitting coach Brian Buchanan also is not expected back.
Kansas City finished the 2017 season at 80-82, losing on Sunday afternoon to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Kauffman Stadium.
