(TSX / STATS) — Saturday’s game between the Seattle Mariners and the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium was postponed by rain.
The game will be made up as part of a traditional doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, with the first contest beginning at the regularly scheduled time of 2:15 p.m. ET. The second game will start within 30 minutes of the completion of the first one.
The postponement was Seattle’s first since being rained out in New York on April 30, 2014. The Mariners had played 572 consecutive scheduled games since that rainout, the longest active streak in the majors.
Seattle’s initial Saturday starter, right-hander Felix Hernandez, was placed on the 10-day disabled list with right biceps tendinitis earlier in the day. The Mariners (56-55) will hand the ball in the first game to left-hander Marco Gonzales, who was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to make his debut.
Right-hander Erasmo Ramirez will pitch for Seattle in the nightcap.
It was not immediately known if the Royals (56-52) would maintain their rotation. Left-hander Danny Duffy (7-6, 3.42 ERA) was slated to get the start on Saturday.
The last traditional doubleheader played in Kauffman Stadium was August 22, 2010, when the Royals and Chicago White Sox split a twi-night twinbill.
