Rain plays havoc with weekend softball tournaments

High School Softball Local Sports

A number of high school softball tournaments began play on Saturday morning, but had to postpone late afternoon contests, including championship games, due to rainfall pushing into the area.  Postponed games were noted in Chillicothe, East Harrison, Milan and King City.

Chillicothe had a strong day in their annual tournament at Danner Park, defeating Maryville 17-3, Oak Grove 9-3, and Macon 13-2.  Jolie Bonderer had 4 RBI’s against the Spoofhounds, with Hope Helton and Kinlei Boley cracking run scoring hits in the win against the Panthers.

South Harrison took a pair of wins at the Chillicothe Tournament, downing Hamilton 8-6 and Kirksville 12-0.

At the East Harrison Tournament, Mercer rallied for a 4-3 win over North Harrison with Gilman City downing East Harrison 7-6.  Winston took a semifinal in run-rule fashion over Gilman City 14-1.  Games washed out due to rain were East Harrison vs. North Harrison in a consolation semifinal, the third place game between Gilman City and the East Harrison/North Harrison survivor, and the championship game between Winston and Mercer.

King City won a pair of games in the King City Tournament, downing Albany 9-5 and Hardin-Central 4-0.  Worth County beat Albany in the King City event 8-0.  Afternoon games were rained out.

Polo stayed unbeaten with a 3-0 day and championship in the Polo Classic, with a quarterfinal win over Meadville 11-5, a semifinal triumph over Lathrop 7-2, and an 11-1 win over Carrollton in the title game.

Milan and Brashear each went 2-0 in pool play at the Milan Tournament, with the potential championship game between the schools a victim of rain.  The same fate came to the third place game between Tina-Avalon and Grundy R-V.

In pool play at Milan, Milan beat Grundy R-V 9-2 and Tina-Avalon 7-5.  Brashear beat T-A 11-2 and Novinger 15-4.  Grundy R-V picked up its first win of the season, downing Novinger 7-5.

Trenton went 2-1 in round robin play at the Maysville Tournament, improving to 8-6 on the season.  The Lady Bulldogs hammered DeKalb 14-1, with Madi Moore 3 for 4 with three runs scored and Katelyn Clark 3 for 4 with two runs scored.  The THS offense was flustered by Plattsburg, falling 3-0.  Mirena King and Kaegan Croy had hits for the Lady Bulldogs.  Trenton rolled GRC rival Maysville 17-0, as Kaylor Hodge, Mirena King, and Jena Harris combined for 7 hits and 7 runs scored.  Elsewhere in the Maysville Tournament, Plattsburg downed Maysville 6-2 and DeKalb shutout Maysville 4-0.
