The Putnam County Lady Midgets continued their unbeaten start to the 2019 softball season on Saturday, taking four wins in grabbing the championship in the Putnam County Tournament in Unionville.
In the final, Putnam County clipped Marceline 6-5, while earlier in the day, the Lady Midgets downed South Harrison 10-3, North Callaway 10-8, and Highland 2-0.
South Harrison finished in 8th place, falling to Schuyler County 6-4. Other scores included Highland 5, South Harrison 2.
Norborne downed Milan to win the Milan Tournament title on Saturday night, 13-4. In pool play, the Lady ‘Cats beat Green City 5-0 and Grundy County 17-2. Grundy County went 1-2, with losses to Green City and Milan, but a win over Novinger.
Pattonsburg won the East Harrison Tournament with a 22-2 win over East Harrison in the title game. Pattonsburg beat Mercer 11-0 in the semifinals. Mercer went 1-1 to finish in third place, beating Winston 8-7.
Polo went 1-2 to finish 4th place in their own tournament, falling to rival Braymer in the third place game 3-2. Earlier in the day, the Lady Panthers were routed by Summit Christian 16-1 and beat Hale 18-4. Braymer shutout Stewartsville 8-0 and was shutout by Carrollton 12-0.
Worth County went 3-0 at the King City Tournament, with wins over King City (4-3), Hardin-Central (14-10), and South Holt (12-4). South Holt clipped King City 13-12, with the Lady ‘Kats of King City doubled up by Hardin-Central 8-4.
Maysville was 2-1 in the Maysville Tournament, falling to Plattsburg in a 3-2 duel, but controlling the action against DeKalb (11-3 win) and Cameron (9-4 win).
