Alan Pulido’s first half goal off of a corner kick by Erik Thommy was the only tally on Sporting Kansas City’s efforts at BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia on Saturday, with that lead holding until the 88th minute, when the Whitecaps tied the contest, with the Western Conference duel ending knotted up at 1-1.
Ryan Gauld had the game-tying goal for Vancouver (5-5-6, 21 points). The draw extends Sporting’s unbeaten run to three matches, with Kansas City’s record now sitting at 4-8-5, good for 17 points.
Kansas City’s defense was strong, holding down a Whitecaps offense coming off of a club-record six goals in a 6-2 win over Houston on Wednesday night.
With the trip “North of the Border” now in their rear-view mirror, Sporting is home for the next four Saturday nights, with the first game of that stretch coming up on June 10th against Austin FC, with kickoff at 7:30 PM from Children’s Mercy Park.
