The Plattsburg Tigers beat the Princeton Tigers 68-65 on Tuesday night, in quarterfinal round play at the Class 2, District 16 boys basketball tournament at Mid-Buchanan High School in Faucett.
Plattsburg trailed 50-48 headed into the final quarter, but had just enough surge to claim the victory, ending the PHS Tigers season, the first under Head Coach Damon Collins. Elijah Curl paced a balanced Plattsburg attack with 16 points. Darius Rawlings contributed 12 points, Jordan Kremer 11, and Tommy Young 10.
Princeton had a game-high 20 points from Blaine Millburn, while Calvin Berwanger had 18, and Andrew Smith 14 points.
The win sends Plattsburg into the district semifinals, and a meeting with the top-seeded Stanberry Bulldogs, who survived a Polo upset bid to win on Tuesday night, winning 54-44. Brad Hailey led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Cole Craig had 17 and Cory Luke 12 for the winning side. James Fleener had 21 points and Cole Bartlett 10 for the Panthers.
The Stanberry vs. Plattsburg boys semifinal will be Thursday night at 5:30.
The boy’s basketball season at Gallatin High School is over, with the Bulldogs falling to the Mid-Buchanan Dragons on Tuesday night, 49-34. Gabe Cole had 16 points with Morgan Corwin contributing 12 for GHS. Mid-Buch was paced by 13 points from Hunter Scaggs.
The Dragons, at 7 o’clock on Thursday night, will host the Maysville Wolverines in boy’s semifinal #2. Maysville, the #6 seed, swung a 64-58 quarterfinal upset of the East Atchison Wolves on Tuesday night.
The girls semifinals from Class 2, District 16 are set for tonight (Wednesday night), as the top-seeded Mid-Buchanan Lady Dragons host Plattsburg at 5:30, followed by an all-GRC “Battle of Lady Bulldogs”, with Gallatin and Stanberry meeting in a 2 vs. 3 seed semifinal at 7 o’clock.
