The Princeton girls and boys basketball teams won championships on Saturday at the Gilman City Invitational Tournament, in doubleheader action broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.
The Lady Tigers defeated North Harrison, 48-44, using a balanced scoring effort to outlast a Lady Shamrock team that had All-HDC Conference first-teamer Payton Craig score a game-high 21 points. With Craig scoring nearly half of North Harrison’s points, Princeton had four players in double figures, led by 12 points from senior Vivian Allen. Payton Goodin and Jaelyn Thomas both scored 11 points for the Lady Tigers, with Lacie Lewis adding 10.
The Princeton boys took the championship showdown with the Pattonsburg Panthers, 73-66, as Calvin Berwanger led the Tigers with 22 points. Andrew Smith had 18 points, with Preston Thomas and Blaine Millburn each tallying 11 for Princeton. For Pattonsburg, Logan Pankau had 14 points, with Cameron Jones scoring 12.
The third-place boys game went to Northeast Nodaway over North Harrison, 61-51. On Friday night, the Tri-County girls won the consolation title over Gilman City, 56-40, with the Gilman City boys winning consolation over East Harrison, 67-47, with the Northeast Nodaway girls taking third place over East Harrison, 42-38.
