The Milan Lady Wildcat softball team made the short trek north on Wednesday night, playing their third Grand River Conference road game in as many night, taking on the rival Putnam County Midgets in a battle of top-notch right-handers in Milan’s Cady Pauley and Putnam County’s Claire Tipton.
In one of the closest battles between the schools in recent memory, Milan battled the Lady Midgets into the ninth inning, when the home team used a triple by Taylor Powell and a sacrifice fly by Karley Seaton to score the game-winning run, as PC won the GRC contest, 3-2.
Tipton had a top-notch start for Putnam County, striking out 16 Lady Wildcat batters over a complete game effort. Gracie Dickson had both of Milan’s RBI’s. Kora Bain had a pair of RBI’s for the winning side.
The Milan at Putnam County game was the only one played on the eastern side of the GRC on Wednesday night, with Stanberry and Albany locking horns in the GRC’s Western Division. Stanberry, already having clinched the divisional title, took a hard-earned 12-8 win over the rival Lady Warriors.
In non-conference action, North Andrew was shutout by Savannah by the final score of 11-0.
