University of Missouri star freshman Michael Porter Jr. missed Monday night’s game against Wagner, a 99-55 Tiger victory in Columbia. Porter’s injury is known to be a combination hip and leg issue, although Coach Cuonzo Martin has been vague about Porter’s status, telling the media in Monday’s postgame press conference that Porter’s injury in the “left leg” leaving him “day to day”, while not going into specifics.
Missouri’s third game of the season is scheduled for Thursday night in Salt Lake City, Utah against the University of Utah Utes. It is unknown whether Porter Jr. will make the trip with his teammates for the 7 o’clock contest (on KTTN FM 92.3).
Coach Martin, in Monday’s press conference, indicated that freshman guard C.J. Roberts and sophomore forward Mitchell Smith are expected to redshirt this season, preserving one year of eligibility for both. Smith, a native of Arkansas, suffered a torn ACL last January, ending his freshman season under then-Head Coach Kim Anderson. Roberts was the highest-rated recruit in Coach Anderson’s 2017 class, and stayed with his commitment to MU after the April coaching change.
