In high school softball state semifinals games on Saturday, played by regionally based teams……starting in Class 2, the Penney High of Hamilton Lady Hornets continued their postseason surge with a dominating performance against Monroe City, winning 10-3 in the state semifinals. Penney will play Tolton Catholic in the state title game this Thursday night at 5 o’clock in Springfield.
In Class 3, Savannah edged Blair Oaks by a score of 1-0, moving the Lady Savages into the state championship game on Friday afternoon at 5 o’clock in Springfield against Sullivan.
Class 1 played its quarterfinal games on Saturday, with LaPlata and Braymer locking horns in a pitcher’s duel, as the Lady Bulldogs emerged with a 1-0, nine inning road win. Platte Valley, two days after knocking off Princeton, rolled to an 11-1 win over Stewartsville-Osborn, while Salisbury cruised to a 12-5 win over Leeton.
