The Pattonsburg Lady Panthers went a perfect 4-0 on Saturday to claim the championship in the nine-team George Scurlock Memorial Tournament at the Derry Sports Complex in Princeton.Â
Playing out of Pool A in the morning session, Pattonsburg began the morning with an 8-4 victory over East Harrison, with the momentum from that contest sending the Lady Panthers into a battle with Grand River Conference champion Gallatin. That game went to Pattonsburg as well, by a final tally of 7-0. Gallatin rebounded with a 22-3 win over East Harrison to salvage second-place in the pool competition.Â
In Pool B, Princeton began play in its own tournament with a pair of Saturday morning wins, as the Lady Tigers triumphed over Gilman City 6-2 and Maysville 15-1, sending the Lady Tigers into the afternoon’s “Gold Pool”, with a chance to play for a title. Gilman City beat Maysville 9-2 in the final game in Pool B, giving the Ladyhawks a second place finish.
In Pool C, Albany took the back-to-back wins in the morning to advance into the Gold Pool, as the Lady Warriors beat Mercer 12-3 and Braymer in a 3-2 thriller in eight innings. Braymer claimed the #2 position out of Pool C, with a 12-3 early afternoon victory over Mercer.Â
Pattonsburg opened play in the Gold Pool with a 3-2 win over Princeton, with the Lady Tigers following up that contest with a loss to Albany 8-0, finishing Princeton’s day in third place.
In the championship game, Pattonsburg outscored Albany in an All-GRC West battle 8-5.Â
In the Silver Pool, Gallatin took a pair of wins to finish fourth in the event, as the Lady Bulldogs downed Gilman City 8-6 and Braymer 11-2. No score is yet available on the Gilman City vs. Braymer matchup.Â
In the Bronze Pool, East Harrison salvaged seventh place, with a 6-5 win over Maysville and a 10-2 victory over Mercer. Eighth place went to Maysville, courtesy of an 11-10 win over Mercer.Â
