While their eastern division counterparts either played in non-conference action, or, in the case of Trenton, had the night off, all eight schools in the Grand River Conference’s western division played one another on Tuesday night, as the third night of 2017 saw basketball doubleheaders played in Grant City, St. Joseph, Braymer, and Albany.
One of the newcomers to the GRC West, the Pattonsburg Panthers, had a great night, earning a pair of victories at St. Joseph Christian. The Lady Panthers took a 36-32 victory, as Grace Warner led a balanced PHS attack with 10 points. Ella Freudenthal had 12 points for the Lady Lions. The Stanberry Lady Bulldogs won at Worth County 60-44, as Jaden McKune had 21 points and Madi Sager 16 for Stanberry. Regan Allee had 24 and Anna Gladstone 15 for the Lady Tigers. At Braymer High School, the visiting King City Lady Wildkats blitzed the host Lady Bobcats, 60-33. Brittany Walters had 19 points and Shae Gilbert 15 for KCHS. The North Andrew Lady Cardinals rolled to a road win at Albany, victorious by a 53-9 final score.
In GRC West boys action, Pattonsburg took a 42-39 road win at St. Joseph Christian, North Andrew blasted Albany 70-11, Worth County handed Stanberry a rare regular season defeat 60-48, and Braymer downed King City 49-41.
In non-conference action, Putnam County’s Calvin Heidenwith had a standout Tuesday night, scoring 51 points for the Midgets in a 80-50 win over Brookfield at Putnam County High School in Unionville. Sara Webb had 16 points and Jade Varner 12 for the Lady Midgets, who fell to visiting Brookfield 51-36.
The Hale Cardinals defeated the Grundy County Panthers in doubleheader action. The Lady Cardinals won 48-24 and the Hale boys won 73-47. In the girls game, Matana Munday and Gentry Copple led their respective teams with 13 points each.
The South Harrison Bulldogs swept North Harrison, with the girls final 58-51 and the boys final 61-31.
