The PAR Broadcast Group stations KTTN AM-FM (1600, 98.3, and 92.3) and KGOZ FM 101.7 are announcing the hiring of veteran area sportscaster Rod Tompkins as a play-by-play personality for the sports department for the 2024-2025 school year. Tompkins will provide the call for the newly established “Grand River Conference Game of the Week” package for Friday night football, in addition to fall softball, winter basketball, and spring baseball broadcasts.
Dawg Bites will return to the KGOZ airwaves from the Trenton Hy-Vee on Thursday nights this fall, starting August 29th, as host and Sports Director Tom Johnson will be joined on a weekly basis by THS football coach Kevin Hixson, selected Bulldog seniors, and members of the coaching staff and players from Trenton girls fall sports teams. The show will air from 6 to 7 o’clock, serving as a preview of the Bulldogs football game on the following night.
High school football coverage on Friday, August 30th will feature Brookfield at Trenton on KGOZ FM 101.7, with Coach Wes Croy on the broadcasts with color analysis. Tompkins’ debut on the KTTN airwaves will be with the Milan Wildcats at the South Harrison Bulldogs, with kickoffs at 7 o’clock.
A pair of high school softball broadcasts will hit the air during the first week of September, as Gallatin, coming off of a Class 1 4th place state finish in 2023, faces a early season test at Putnam County on Tuesday, September 3rd at 5 o’clock, with Tom Johnson on the call on KGOZ FM 101.7.
On Thursday, September 5th, Rod Tompkins will be on the call as South Harrison, the reigning third-place finisher in state from Class 2, plays at Trenton at 5 o’clock on KTTN FM 92.3.
Week #2 of the high school football season, on Friday, September 6th, will feature Trenton at Polo on KGOZ FM 101.7 and Marceline at Gallatin on KTTN FM 92.3.
