The Milan Wildcats used a quick-strike offense and big-play defense to move to 5-0 on the season, routing rival Putnam County on Friday night, 43-14, in a Grand River Conference showdown broadcast from Unionville on KTTN FM 92.3.
Senior fullback Jamuel Pagan had three touchdowns rushing and 121 yard for the Wildcats, tied with South Harrison and Gallatin, all at 3-0 for the GRC lead. The ‘Cats took a 7-0 lead on a 48 yard touchdown strike from Ryan Dabney to Dre Morehead. A 50 yard “Pick 6” from sophomore Dominic Dabney followed shortly thereafter, extending Milan’s lead with another momentum seizing play. The Dabney to Morehead combination was especially potent for MHS, with a 51 yard connection late in the first half, and a 60 yard pass, catch, and run by the junior combo in the third quarter.
Putnam County, now 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the GRC (tied with Maysville and Polo for 6th place), had a pair of touchdown runs for the Midgets points in the game, with quarterback Levi Fowler and fullback Torqe Brundage both finding the end zone.
Putnam County will play at Princeton this coming Friday night (September 28th) on KTTN FM 92.3, with Milan putting its unbeaten record on the line at the GRC’s biggest school, Trenton, in a Friday night test against the 1-4 Bulldogs on Hot Country Z 101.7.
