Packers pull away in second half for 35-17 MNF win over Lions

NFL

The Green Bay Packers finished the second week of the National Football League’s season with a dominating second half performance, throttling the NFC North rival Detroit Lions 35-17.  Aaron Jones led the Packers offense with four touchdowns, while Aaron Rodgers was 22 of 27 for 255 yards passing.  Jones became the first Green Bay running back to catch three touchdowns in a game since Andy Uram against the Chicago Cardinals in 1942.

Detroit started long but faded late, with the Lions defense continuing to struggle to keep points off the scoreboard.  Jared Goff finished 26 of 36 for 246 yards, including a touchdown pass to Quintez Cephus and T.J. Hockenson, but threw a pick and lost a fumble.

The Packers scored touchdowns in all three passes to start the second half, ripping the upset hopes away from the Lions.  Detroit falls to 0-2, tied with Minnesota for last place in the NFC North, with Green Bay, winners of nine consecutive opening games at Lambeau Field, tying the Bears for first place at 2-0.

Week #3 of the season will start on Thursday night, with Carolina at Houston at 7:20 PM on the NFL Network.  The Chiefs will host the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
