The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats hammered Missouri Southern in MIAA football Saturday afternoon in Maryville, 63-0, rolling up 588 total yards and 31 first downs in moving to 3-0 on the season. Northwest scored a touchdown on five of six possessions in the first half and led 35-0 at the break. Shawn Bane Jr posted 193 all-purpose yards in the first half that included a 75-yard touchdown reception and an 88-yard punt return for a score.
Freshman receiver LaTroy Harper got involved in the game, but as a passer, connecting with quarterback Braden Wright on a 31-yard play in the game, with the Hamilton native one of four different players to complete passes for the Bearcats.
The Bearcats will hit the road next Saturday for a 6 p.m. kick against Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla.
Elsewhere in the MIAA on Saturday, Missouri Western was beat down at Central Missouri, falling to the Mules 51-14. Emporia State claimed a hard-earned 20-17 win at Nebraska-Kearney, Fort Hays State tripped up in-state rival Washburn 30-24, Central Oklahoma outscored Lindenwood 52-42, while Pittsburg State rolled to a 45-7 win at Northeastern State.
