The North Harrison Lady Shamrocks survived a semifinal challenge from East Harrison before beating Mercer, 11-1, in Saturday’s HDC Conference softball tournament in Bethany.
North Harrison improved to 6-1 in the semifinal round, two-hitting East Harrison in a 2-0 victory. The Shamrocks scored a single run in the first inning and added a run in the fifth inning for insurance.
In the final, North Harrison jumped on Mercer with four runs in the first inning, before adding a run in the 2nd, three in the fifth, and three in the sixth to end the game courtesy of the run rule. Payton Craig earned the pitching win for North Harrison, holding Mercer to one run (3rd inning) and four hits. Mercer had opportunities to get multiple runs on the board, but left the bases loaded in two separate innings.
Mercer advanced to the final with a 12-2 semifinal win over Grundy R-5. Both Mercer and North Harrison had first-round byes.
In Saturday’s Stanberry Softball Tournament, the Lady Bulldogs took home the championship, going 3-0 against its competition. Stanberry beat Northeast Nodaway 10-0, Maryville 12-11, and North Andrew 8-0.
In the Maysville Tournament, Maysville beat Mid-Buchanan 12-11, Mid-Buchanan took a 6-0 win over DeKalb, East Buchanan routed DeKalb 10-1, while Maysville downed East Buchanan 10-1.
