The North Harrison Shamrocks traveled to Newtown on Monday night, taking a pair of varsity basketball victories over the host Tigers. The Lady Shamrocks, behind 19 points from both Brandy Rivet and Payton Craig, took the victory 58-28, improving to 4-1 overall and 3-0, good for first place early in the HDC Conference race.
The boys game went to the ‘Rocks by a final score of 73-41. North Harrison is now 3-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
In non-conference action on Monday night, the Lathrop Mules traveled to Gallatin to tangle with the Bulldogs. The Lady Bulldogs put nine players in the score column, including 10 from Kelsey Maxwell, in a 45-25 victory. The boys game, despite a game-high 24 points from Gallatin point guard Jett Simmons, tipped the Mules way, 57-48. Brock Lewis had 17 points and Blake Gordon 12 for Lathrop. Gabe Cole contributed to the Bulldogs total with a 10 point night.
The Meadville boys prepared for a Tuesday night showdown with state-ranked Linn County by downing Tina-Avalon 49-18, while the Tina-Avalon girls took the opener against MHS, 48-42.
The St. Joseph Benton girls stayed unbeaten with a 62-35 win over MEC rival Savannah, while the Lawson girls, behind 23 points from Taylor Dolt, defeated the Cameron Lady Dragons 30-25.
The St. Joseph Lafayette boys took down Class 2 state-ranked Mid-Buchanan 87-76, with the East Harrison boys, behind 26 points from Ethan Claycomb, claiming a 59-34 win over Union Star. The East Harrison Lady Bobcats hammered Union Star, 61-21.
The Chillicothe Lady Hornets lost at Macon against the Tigerettes, 58-43, with the Hornet boys winning at Excelsior Springs, 55-37.
