The North Central Missouri College Lady Pirates rolled out to a 54-22 halftime lead, and cruised in the final 20 minutes to an 86-51 win over the Missouri Valley Vikings junior varsity on Monday night at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton.
Kendey Eaton led NCMC with 20 points, with Kelly Warford adding 15, Sarah Lamp and Jami Nickerson 14 points each, and Madison Gonseth 11. The win improves the Lady Pirates record to 17-6, heading into back-to-back Region XVI road tests later this week.
The Pirate men played the Missouri Valley JV as well on Monday night, but traveled down Highway 65 to duel with the Vikings. The North Central men earned a much-needed victory, 84-83, moving to 11-8 on the season. Jalen Gant had 22 points, Dee Scruggs 13, and Demetrius Houston 12 for the Pirates.
The NCMC teams will be in Lexington on Wednesday night to play the Wentworth Red Dragons. Both the women’s game (5:30) and men’s game (7:30) will be broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7.
On Saturday, the Lady Pirates and Pirates head down Interstate 35 to Kansas City, where the Penn Valley Scouts provide the opposition. Game times are set for 2 o’clock (women) and 4 o’clock (men), also on Hot Country Z 101.7.
The Lady Pirates are currently 3-1 in Region XVI play, in second place, one game behind St. Louis. The Pirate men are 1-2 in Region XVI, sitting in third place in the four-team regular season race for postseason tournament seeding.
