The North Central Missouri College basketball teams played host to the Jefferson College Vikings on Friday night, with JeffCo visiting the Trenton campus for the first time as a Region XVI foe of North Central.
In action heard on KGOZ FM 101.7, the Lady Pirates won the opener against a solid 12-5 Viking squad, 83-66. The win, pushing North Central to 16-4 (2-0 in Region XVI) saw a balanced scoring effort for the home team, as Mary Copeland had 16 points, with Gladys Brown, Tori Meinecke, and Nateonia Russell all tallying 11 points, with Jessica Reeter adding 10.
JeffCo (12-6, 0-1) had 16 points from Chaniya Felton and Josie Allen, with Jakayla Kirk adding 13 and Sydney Burris 10 points.
The Pirate men put up their second victory in region play while scoring triple digits in the process, blitzing the Vikings by a final score of 111-83.
Tyler King led all scorers with 25 points for the Pirates, with Isaiah Reams adding 19, Jon Carroll 15, Dampier Evans 13, and Giovanni Mack 11 points.
For JeffCo, Jaylen Boyd had 21 points, with Cole Rickerson 13, and Gabe Watkins 12. NCMC is 14-4 overall and 2-0 in region play, with Jefferson College at 7-11 and 0-2.
On Saturday, the Pirate men will host St. Louis Community College in a 3 o’clock tip. Due to lack of numbers, the St. Louis women’s program disbanded for the second consecutive year, meaning no Lady Pirate game at the Ketcham Community Center.
