The North Central Missouri College women improved to 6-1 in Region XVI play, remaining on the heels of first-place St. Louis, with a 79-57 victory over the visiting Cottey Comets on Wednesday night, in a game broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7. The Lady Pirates led by two points at the half, but dominated the third quarter by a 23-4 bulge to pull away for the win.
Kendey Eaton led NCMC with 20 points, with Sarah Lamp adding 19, McKinley Hurley 13, and Jami Nickerson 11 points. For Cottey, Cheyenne Ortiz had 13 points and Destiney Teniente added 11. The Comets, in third place in the Region XVI standings, drop to 7-11 overall, and 3-4 in region play. Cottey plays at St. Louis on Saturday afternoon.
North Central Missouri College’s women have a season record of 20-6.
The Pirate men held by ten points at halftime of their Wednesday night game with the Culver-Stockton junior varsity, then raced out to a big lead over the first five minutes of the second half, beating the visiting Wildcats, 89-62.
Jalen Gant paced NCMC with 21 points, Joshuah Goss had 20, Demetrius Houston 16, and M.J. Johnson 11 points. The win is North Central’s fifth in a row (season-high), pushing the Pirates to 15-8.
The Lady Pirates and Pirates will host the North Arkansas Pioneers on Saturday afternoon (women at 2 o’clock and men at 4).
