The North Central Missouri College softball team took a close, hard-earned victory (3-2)at Northwest Missouri State in the first game of a Sunday doubleheader, only to see the Bearcats rebound with a decisive, blowout victory (15-1) in Game #2.
The split leaves NCMC at 4-1-1 in the fall exhibition season. Coach Steve Richman told NCMCPirates.com, “My feelings about the day are a little mixed. We came out and played really well to start earning the 3-2 win. Then, I feel like we got a bit complacent and definitely faced our challenges as the day went on. We will continue to improve so that we can play at a high level more consistently when the games matter in the spring.”
The Lady Pirates next action will be Tuesday, October 9th in St. Joseph against Missouri Western State University.
The NCMC baseball team had a pair of ties and a one run loss on Saturday, playing in Rolla against the Missouri University School of Science and Technology.
In Game #1, the Miners rallied from a mid-game 2-0 hole, scoring a run in the 4th and a run in the 6th in a game ended in a 2-2 tie.
In the second game, the Pirates jumped on Missouri S&T for five third inning runs, only to see the Miners rally, with five runs in the bottom of the 7th flipping a 5-1 Pirate lead into a 6-5 walk-off win for the Miners.
The Pirates fell behind 4-0 in the Saturday finale, but North Central’s offense sprung to life with six runs in the sixth inning. Leading 6-5 leading in the home 7th, S&T tied the game with a single tally, with the contest ending at 6-6.
Next up for NCMC baseball is a trip to Fayette to play Central Methodist University on Tuesday, October 2nd.
