The North Central Missouri College softball and baseball teams built momentum into the weekend on Tuesday afternoon, taking victories over four-year school JV competition in Trenton.
The Pirate baseball team downed Missouri Valley by final scores to 7-0 and 11-2, improving to 13-21 on the season. NCMC will play four games in two days this weekend at Hesston College, in Hesston, Kansas.
Edward Viloria had three hits in Tuesday’s doubleheader sweep, including a triple to go with four RBI’s. Daniel Mendez had a solo homer in the opening win. Nathan Fine and Ramses Gutierrez claimed the pitching wins, as North Central improved to 11-4 over the last 15 games.
The Lady Pirates pushed their record back over .500 at 19-17 with a 10-0 and 12-4 doubleheader sweep over Graceland University at Mark Griffin Memorial Field. Maeve Lavoy fired a complete game victory at the Yellowjackets in the opener, and with the bat cracked her third homer of the spring. Putnam County High School grad Carsen Sporleder led the North Central offense with three hits and three RBI’s.
Princeton grad Lauren Krohn was solid from the circle in the nightcap, striking out 10 batters in five innings of work. Mallory Greiwe had four RBI’s and Rylie Boyer had three hits and three runs scored.
The Lady Pirates return to Region XVI competition this weekend, traveling to Sedalia to play State Fair Community College on Friday, before hosting St. Charles Community College on Saturday.
