The North Central Missouri College men’s basketball team rebounded from Wednesday night’s blowout loss to Southwestern (Iowa), rallying for a 73-70 victory over Lincoln Land Community College on Saturday afternoon at the Ketcham Community Center.
In a balanced scoring effort, Major Finley led the Pirates with 15 points. Ryan Ward came off the bench to tally 11, with Demetrius Houston Jr. adding 10. Stuffing the stat sheet were Teyontae Jenkins with eight points and 11 assists, and Jalen Gant with eight points and 9 boards. The win improves the Pirates record to 3-1.
North Central rallied from a 40-35 halftime deficit, holding the Loggers to only 30 second half points in securing the win.
The North Central women moved past the .500 mark (3-2), ripping an over-matched Graceland junior varsity on Friday night in Trenton, 101-62. Freshman center Madison Gonseth led six Lady Pirates in double figures with 19 points. Sarah Lamp and Kelly Warford both had 16, Jami Nickerson 13, Kendey Eaton 11, and Dasia Young 10 points for NCMC.
Graceland, bringing only six players on Friday night, put four players in double figures, as Saji Ites had 17, Kacyn Shirley 12, and Anna Monroe and Bianca Pensey 10 points each. Gilman City High School graduate Darrianne Carey had nine points for the Yellowjackets.
NCMC will host Southwestern on Tuesday night at the Ketcham Community Center, in games available on KGOZ-TV. The women’s game tips at 5:30 with the men at 7:30, as Tom Johnson provides the play-by-play call.
