The North Central Missouri College basketball teams claimed a pair of victories at the Ketcham Community Center on Wednesday night, opening the 2017 home portion of their schedules in the win column.
The NCMC Lady Pirates won for the 10th time this season, as Kendey Eaton scored 19 points to lead North Central to a 79-57 victory over the University of St. Mary junior varsity. Asia Young added 17 points and Sarah Lamp 13 points to go with 14 rebounds for the Lady Pirates, who received superb board work from Kelly Warford and Madison Gonseth, as that duo combined for 22 rebounds.
Lady Pirate Coach Jenni Croy commented on the win to NCMCPirates.com, “Last night was a good win for us. We played well in spurts. Second half we really moved the ball on offense and we were able to get good looks at the basket”.
In the men’s game, sophomore Demetrius Houston had one of his best scoring nights as the Pirate, connecting for 31 in a 108-92 NCMC victory over the Missouri Valley junior varsity.
Major Finley had 14, Joshuah Goss 11, and Jalen Gant 10 points for NCMC, as the Pirates won their 2017 debut, improving their overall record to 7-4.
The level of competition, and importance of game results, will increase significantly for the Pirates over the next week, as Region 16 play begins with visits to the Trenton campus from the St. Louis Community College Archers on Saturday (1 and 3 o’clock) and the Wentworth Military Academy Red Dragons on Wednesday night (5:30 and 7:30).
