The North Central Missouri College men’s basketball team is scheduled to open the 2020-2021 season, and will do so without assistant coach Brandon Gossett on the Pirates bench.
Emporia State University, on Thursday afternoon, announced the hiring of Gossett as an assistant to head coach Craig Doty. The Hornets had been seeking a replacement for Brandon Schwebke, who recently took an opening as an assistant coach at Clark County in Dubuque, Iowa.
Last season, as the lead assistant under NCMC coach Jeremy Esry, Gossett helped lead North Central with a 29-win season, a second straight NJCAA D-2 national tournament berth, in addition to Region 16 and District 7 championships. From a stretch from mid-December through early February, the Pirates reached unprecedented heights, ranked #1 in the national polls for a seven week run.
Gossett, a native of Aurora, Illinois, was hired by North Central after leading Peru State (NE) College with a 23 win season and a trip to the NAIA Division 1 national tournament in Kansas City in 2018-2019.
