The Chillicothe Mudcats scored 9 runs over the final four innings of Wednesday night’s MINK League opener against the Sedalia Bombers, with the ‘Cats leaving town on the strength of a 10-3 win.
After falling behind by 1-0 after a Sedalia tally in the bottom of the 3rd inning, Chillicothe tied in the contest in the 4th, with Nick Gawley taking advantage of poor Sedalia defense to score the first run of the Mudcat season.
A four-run top of the 6th inning, highlighted by a Nick Banman two-run homer, gave the Mudcats a 5-2 lead. Two more runs in the 8th inning, and three in the 9th, including a two-run blast by Jacob Biller, completed the scoring.
Winning pitcher Cody Bounds pitched the first 6 2/3 innings for Chillicothe. The Mudcats home opener will be tonight (Thursday night) at 7:05 against the KC Monarchs. Chillicothe will play at Clarinda on Friday night at 7:00, and host Clarinda on Saturday night at 7:05.
