The Chillicothe Mudcats are sprinting towards the playoffs, aiming to capitalize on the final week of the regular season. On Monday night, they faced the Des Moines Peak Prospects in what would be the first of three encounters this week. Displaying remarkable resilience, the Mudcats secured a 7-5 victory, proving their ability to stay on top regardless of the inning.
Leading the charge, RHP Bailey Quint delivered an outstanding pitching performance, marking his fifth and final start of the regular season. Quint pitched 6.2 innings, striking out three and conceding only three runs. Young right-hander Josiah Golden took the mound following Quint, pitching 1.1 innings and striking out four while allowing just one run. RHP Tanner Sears stepped up in the ninth, securing his fourth save of the season despite a tense moment with loaded bases and two outs. Sears sealed the victory by striking out Isaac Short.
The Mudcats’ offense showcased a solid performance at the plate. Outfielder Nathan MacLaren went 2-4 with an RBI during the late innings. Third Baseman Tanner Sears contributed with a crucial two-RBI single in the seventh, finishing the game 2-5. Shortstop Jackson Lindquist continued his impressive hitting and scoring streak, going 1-3 with a double and two runs.
Monday night’s triumph marked the Mudcats’ historic tenth-straight victory at home, a franchise record for consecutive home wins. However, the Mudcats lead over Carroll for third place in the MINK North remained at only one game, with Carroll edging past Joplin 10-9.
