The Chillicothe Mudcats went into the bottom of the 9th inning leading the St. Joseph Mustangs 7-3 and needed all of that advantage, giving up three runs to the home team but claiming a 7-6 win, Chillicothe’s second of the season.
Combining in the pitching effort for the Mudcats were started Karter Muck, Koby Linder, and JJ Lylicki, with Jackson Lindquist opening the scoring with a second inning single. After falling behind 3-1, the Mudcats dominated the middle innings, with a single tally in the fifth and one in the sixth to rally for a tie.
A three-run inning in the 7th surged Chillicothe to the lead, with a Lindquist ninth-inning RBI giving the ‘Cats a seemingly comfortable 7-3 advantage.
In the bottom of the ninth, a walk, a single, and a hit batter brought the tying run to the plate. Two additional hit batters cut the Chillicothe lead in half, another walk forced in the sixth Mustang run, before a strikeout ended the game.
Chillicothe will host the Carroll Merchants on Thursday and Friday nights, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 at Shaffer Park/Haney Field in Chillicothe.
