University of Missouri junior tight end Albert Okwuegbunam was selected by the Denver Broncos in the fourth round of Saturday’s 2020 NFL Draft, reuniting with collegiate teammate, quarterback Drew Lock, in the “Mile High City”. Denver took Okwuegbunam with the #118 overall selection, ending a wait for the productive offensive weapon.
As a Tiger, “Albert O” had his most productive seasons working with Lock, including earning 2nd-Team All-SEC honors as a redshirt freshman in 2017, followed by a sophomore season in 2018 with 43 catches and six touchdowns. Battling injury as a junior, he caught a team-high 26 passes in 2019 for 306 yards and six touchdowns.
On Friday night, in the third round of the draft, Missouri had defensive tackle Jordan Elliott, the former transfer from Texas, gobbled up by the Cleveland Browns.
The two selections make it 16 straight seasons that a Mizzou product has been selected in the NFL Draft.
After the draft’s conclusion on Saturday night, several MU products signed undrafted free-agent contracts in the NFL, including former Kearney Bulldog, linebacker Cale Garrett with the Tennessee Titans. Tennessee also signed kicker Tucker McCann. Others inking from MU were offensive tackle Yasir Durant with Kansas City, offensive lineman Trystan Colon-Castillo with Baltimore, offensive lineman Tre’Vour Wallace-Simms with Jacksonville, with the 49ers signing cornerback DeMarcus Acy and offering a camp invite to safety Ronnell Perkins. The Redskins signed wide receiver Johnathan Johnson. Quarterback Kelly Bryant has not yet signed a deal, with the former Clemson and Missouri Tiger said to be working through his professional options.
