University of Missouri freshman Connor Bazelak has had a superb Saturday performance recognized by the SEC with conference “Freshman of the Week” honors, announced on Monday morning.
Bazelak, a redshirt freshman for MU, lit up the LSU defense for 406 yards and four touchdowns in Mizzou’s 45-41 upset of the defending national champions in Columbia. Just one week before his breakout performance, Bazelak had found himself battling for playing time for Coach Eliah Drinkwitz, with most pundits considering him the back-up to Shawn Robinson.
Against LSU, Bazelak completed 29 of 34 passes, setting a record for passing accuracy for Missouri freshman, with the second-highest completion percentage by a Tiger quarterback, behind only Chase Daniel, against SEMO in 2008.
A St. Louis area product has entered the transfer portal, as Missouri redshirt freshman receiver Cjay Boone announced that decision on Monday, confirmed by the MU Athletic Department.
Boone is a Parkway North High School graduate who had chosen to opt out of the 2020 season prior to the opener against Alabama. Coming out of high school in 2019, Boone, according to 247Sports, was considered the state of Missouri’s #13 player in the class, and a three-star athlete on the rating scale.
