Mizzou volleyball earns NCAA Tournament berth, first-round meeting with KU

Mizzou

The volleyball program at the University of Missouri will travel to Wichita on Friday, for a first-round NCAA Tournament match with long-time rival Kansas.  Wichita is one of the hosts for first and second-round matchups this up.  First serve between the Tigers and Jayhawks is scheduled for Friday night at 6 o’clock.

With a victory, Mizzou would advance to play the winner between #16 national seed Wichita State and Radford.  Missouri and Kansas last met on the volleyball hardwood in the 2015 NCAA Tournament in Lawrence, Kansas, when the Jayhawks swept Mizzou in three sets.  Since the arrival of Wayne and Susan Kreklow as coaches at MU in 2000, the Tigers have won 19 of 25 matches against their border foe.

This year’s Tiger team had a strong season, although finishing a few wins shy of an SEC title, going 20-11 overall, and 13-5 in conference play, good for third place.

First and second rounds in the NCAA Volleyball Tournament will take place at 16 on-campus sites across the country this Thursday through Saturday.  Regionals will be held on December 8th and 9th, with the national championship rounds played at the Sprint Center in Kansas City on Thursday, December 14th and Saturday, December 16th.
