The July recruiting momentum for the University of Missouri slowed a tad on Friday, with defensive end Cole McConathy of Spanish Fort High School in Alabama committing to the University of Louisville and passing on Mizzou. McConathy had narrowed his final two choices to the Cardinals and Tigers, after receiving multiple offers, including schools like Virginia, Kansas State, Pitt, Colorado, and Georgia Tech.
McConathy, 6’5″ 225 pounds, is regarded as one of the top edge rushers in the Class of 2024, ranked #28 in the state of Alabama at his position, according to On3. 247Sports rates him as the #949 prospect in the class across the country.
During his junior season at Spanish Fort, McConathy had 28 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, 51 total tackles, and two forced fumbles, earning him first-team honors on AL.com’s Coastal Alabama All-Region team.
After losing out on McConathy, Mizzou and head coach Eliah Drinkwitz will now await the decisions of three-star defensive lineman Jamari Payne and four-star running back Johann Cardenas, both announcing today (Saturday), with Cardenas down to Vanderbilt and Missouri. Four-star linebacker Brian Huff will announce a decision between Missouri, Arkansas, Central Florida, and UNLV on Wednesday.
