University of Missouri senior safety Anthony Sherrils, a native of Kansas City, has earned Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time, after forcing a pair of takeaways and garnering six tackles in Saturday’s 45-16 win over Florida at Faurot Field in Columbia.
In the first quarter against UF, Sherrils recovered a muffed punt, with MU taking only three plays to find the end zone. One quarter later, it was an interception by Sherrils that gave the football back to Drew Lock and the Tigers potent offense, with a Larry Rountree run finding the end zone.
On a touchdown saving tackle in the Gators backfield in the third quarter, Sherrils brought down Lamical Perine, with Florida kicking a field goal three plays later.
Sherrils, along with 16 other Tiger seniors, will be honored on Saturday in Columbia, as Mizzou hosts the Tennessee Volunteers in a big SEC East showdown. The 6:30 game will be broadcast on the SEC Network and KTTN FM 92.3, with radio pregame hitting the air at 4:30.
