The recruiting class at the University of Missouri is up to 18 for the Class of 2021, with junior college product Daniel Robledo and McKinney High School (TX) senior Jonathan Jones both committing to the Tiger football program in recent days.
Jones announced his commitment to Coach Eliah Drinkwitz on Saturday, passing up on offers from in-state suitors Texas and Baylor, in addition to interest and offers from Missouri’s former conference foes Nebraska and Colorado.
He became the fourth defensive lineman in MU’s 2021 class upon committing, joining Travion Ford, Shemar Pearl, and Mekhi Wingo.
The defensive line, overall, and junior college commitment numbers all expanded by one on Monday, with East Los Angeles (CA) College freshman Daniel Robledo committing to Mizzou. Robledo, in his freshman year in the JUCO ranks, had four sacks and nine tackles for loss, playing on the same defensive line as 2020 Mizzou commit Benjamin Key.
Originally from Hawaii, Robledo grew up in Arizona and attended Cholla High School before heading to Los Angeles and JUCO football. He stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 280 pounds.
Choosing Mizzou over Arizona, UCLA, Washington State, Boise State, Houston, Ole Miss and others, Robledo is ranked by 247Sports as the top junior college weak-side defensive end.
Current rankings have MU’s class up to #23 in the country (247Sports), with Rivals thinking a bit higher of the Tigers recruiting prowess, marking down Missouri at #18.
In other SEC related recruiting updates, a three-star wide receiver from the state of Alabama has announced his top five schools, with Malachi Bennett of Fairfield, Alabama listing Georgia, Ole Miss, and South Carolina in the group, along with Louisville and UAB. He is ranked as the country’s #60 wideout in the class, and Alabama’s #12 overall recruit (247Sports). He caught 44 passes for 809 yards last fall as a junior.
The top cornerback in JUCO has a top 7 list that includes some of the “heavy hitters” in college football. De’Jahn Warren of Lackwanna (MD) Community College earned JUCO All-American status last year with 35 tackles and five interceptions. The 6-foot, 175 pound prospect, on Sunday night, announced Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee in his final list, along with Oklahoma, Florida State, Maryland, and Penn State. 247Sports lists him as the #2 overall JUCO prospect in the 2021 class.
