Rob Summers has officially joined the Missouri men’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach, a move confirmed on Wednesday. He has signed a two-year contract with an annual salary of $240,000, as stated on Mizzou Athletics’ website.
Given Missouri’s current lack of an athletic director due to Desiree Reed-Francois’s departure to Arizona, interim athletic director Marcy Girton and UM system president Mun Choi have approved Summers’ contract.
Summers fills the position that was left vacant by Dickey Nutt, who transitioned to an off-court role after being diagnosed with cancer in February. Nutt continues to serve as the assistant and senior advisor for head coach Dennis Gates during his recovery from sarcoma.
Prior to joining Missouri, Summers spent two seasons as the associate head coach under Travis Steele at Miami (Ohio). He also has experience working with Gates, having served as his top assistant for three seasons at Cleveland State. Summers is known for his expertise in coaching frontcourt players, having played as a 7-footer under John Beilein at West Virginia, following his initial collegiate career at Penn State.
