The Missouri Tigers, after losing two players from its offensive line coming out of spring practice, were able to add a junior college offensive lineman to the 2016 football roster this week.
On Wednesday morning, Kyle Mitchell, a 6-foot-4, 315 pound lineman from Sacramento (California) American River Community College committed to Mizzou. As a “full qualifier” out of high school, Mitchell will be immediately available to play for the Tigers, with four years of eligibility remaining to play three. Mitchell visited the MU campus two weeks ago, and ultimately chose Missouri over Texas Tech.
The Mitchell news comes on the heels of Missouri adding former Oklahoma running back Alex Ross as a graduate transfer. Ross will be a redshirt senior this fall for the Tigers, having, according to PowerMizzou, signed a financial aid agreement with MU. He will be immediately available to play this fall.
Ross is an Oklahoma native (from Jenks), and has played for the Sooners the past three years, rushing for 786 yards and five touchdowns. The 6-foot-1, 227 pounder will add depth and experience to a stable of running backs that includes last year’s starter Ish Witter, and two four-star running backs joining the program this summer in junior college transfer Natereace Strong and true freshman Damarea Crockett of Little Rock, Arkansas, a February signee with Mizzou.
Ross, coming out of high school in 2012, was a four-star recruit by Rivals, Scout, 247, and ESPN. Some of his greatest success at Oklahoma came as a kick returner. As a sophomore, Ross returned two kickoffs for touchdowns and was named a second-team All-American kick returner. Ross’ move to Missouri will reunite him with Tiger offensive coordinator Josh Heupel, who was offensive coordinator at Oklahoma when Ross was recruited to Norman.
